December 2024

In this season of Thanksgiving, we are thinking what a big year 2024 has been for Our Town Leeds.

If you are a new member, welcome! We are focused on building community in our wonderful, small but fast-changing town. Our big idea is to ensure that the post office stays in Leeds with a physical space that meets USPS standards, and to create a library that can offer materials, programs, internet access, and space.

But there’s no reason to wait until we have a building to strengthen the sense of community! Here’s what’s been happening since midsummer:

● We have a new logo! We’re working to turn it into a magnet so we can all proudly declare our love for our town, Leeds. Watch for more information.

● Story Hour is back, taking place on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month at 10:00 a.m. at the Leeds Community Church. Bring your little ones for a story and playtime.

● Speaking of the Leeds Community Church, the church and OTL collaborated to host our first Open Mic night on October 25, and it was a blast. Neighbors shared music, poetry, stories, and a lot of great baked goods. We’re thinking this could be just the ticket for fighting the midwinter blues, so keep an eye out.

● We connected with a professor of architecture and civil engineering at Central Maine Community College who assigned to his class the challenge of developing a concept design for a building to house a library and post office in Leeds. The students delighted us with a range of approaches, and we’re looking forward to seeing their final projects in December.

● We have raised over $56,000 in just the past year through memberships, events, and grants. Thank you! The support you have shown helps us raise more money to make this big idea a reality. We still have a matching opportunity. Gifts up to $1,255 will be matched dollar for dollar.
